UNB Fall Classic


The Kanokai Judo Club athletes traveled to Fredericton, NB over the weekend for the UNB Fall Classic and Training Camp.  Kanokai medalists included;

Heidi Feit of Priestville brought home Gold, while Maddy Fitt of Egerton, Bailey MacDonald of Woodburn, Kyle Sutherland of Scotsburn, and Alan DeYoung of Trenton all were Bronze medalists.


Next on the calendar for Kanokai is hosting Olympian and World Team member Nick Tritton.  The Atlantic Fall Training Camp will be held in New Glasgow on November 26th and 27th and athletes from throughout the Atlantic Provinces will be in attendance for this great opportunity to learn from one of Canada’s best.




Quebec Open International Judo Tournament

Montreal, Quebec - October 8-9, 2011


Four members of the Kanokai Judo Club attended the 35th Annual Quebec Open International Judo Tournament over the weekend in Montreal. There were over 800 athletes, representing 5 countries at this event, making it the largest tournament in Canada.

Heidi Feit of Priestville, competing in U20 category went 4 and 1 to bring home a bronze medal in the -57kg division. Marshall Fitt of Egerton came out with a 3-2 record in U17 to give him a 7th place finish in -66kg. 

Kudos also to Bailey MacDonald of Woodburn and Maddy Fitt of Egerton, who gained some great experience as well!

July 1-3, 2011
Kanokai Judo club had three athletes attend the National Judo Championships over the weekend in Sept Isles, QC. 
Both Maddy and Marshall Fitt of Egerton earned bronze medals in their U15 divisions.  This was the first national medals for both young competitors.  These were two of four medals for Nova Scotia at the tournament.
Also congratulations on a 5th place showing to Heidi Feit of Priestville in the U20 division.  Feit is a seasoned veteran of national competition and was coming off an elbow injury from Canada Games in February.  She lost the bronze medal match by a split decision, but it was a great result in her first competition since her injury!

2011 Provincial Judo Championships - June 5, 2011

Halifax, NS - Judo Nova Scotia ended it’s provincial judo season on Sunday when it hosted the 2011 Judo Nova Scotia Provincial Championships at Mount Saint Vincent University.

Kanokai Judo Club of New Glasgow had great representation, with 25 competitors.

Medals were also presented to the Recreational Development Division to Cade Mosher and Dawson MacKay.

Other medals went to;

Gold - Bailey Fraser, Bailey MacDonald, Brady MacDonald, Tyler MacRae, Marshall Fitt, and Kyle Sutherland.

Silver - Marcus Angevine, Draven MacDonald, Logan O’Neil, Cody Angevine, Maddy Fitt, Marshall Fitt, and Ryleigh Cameron.

Bronze - Mason Dakin and Andrew Langley

Other awards given out over the weekend included;

Heidi Feit was selected as Female Athlete of the Year at the Judo Nova Scotia Awards and Allen Tobey was chosen as the Judo Nova Scotia Volunteer of the Year at the Ricoh Sport Awards.

Claude Berthelette Cup - April 18, 2010

Three members of the club traveled to Saint Hubert, QC for the Claude Berthelette Cup.

Kiyokan Invitational Tournament - March 27, 2010

Two members of the Kanokai Judo Club of New Glasgow attended the Kiyokan Invitational Judo Tournament in Saint John, NB.

Brandon Arnold and Brandon MacLeod both brought home silver medals for their efforts!! Congratulations!!



Halifax Judo Academy Invitational Judo Tournament         February 20, 2010

Kanokai Judo Club had 10 members compete in Halifax over the weekend. Clubs from across the province, as well as New Brunswick and PEI were in attendance. Bringing home medals were;

Kanokai Invitational Judo Tournament - December 5, 2009

The local Kanokai Club hosted a judo tournament on the weekend at the Northumberland Regional High School in Alma. Twenty-two clubs from across the province, as well as New Brunswick, PEI, and Newfoundland were in attendance. It was a great turnout from local competitors with 30 Pictou County athletes vying for medals. Following are their results;

Quebec Open International Judo Tournament

Montreal, Quebec - October 10 & 11, 2009

National Judo Championships - Calgary, AB

July 4-5, 2009

Kanokai Judo Club sent two members to the Nationals Judo Championships in Calgary, Alberta over the weekend and both came home with medals!

Bryan Campbell went undefeated to come out on top over the weekend. The 18 year old from New Glasgow won GOLD in the -100 kilo division to claim his second National title.

Heidi Feit of Priestville won SILVER in the -57kg category. This was Feit’s first medal at the National Championships, and capped off a off very successful year where she also won two international competitions. 


Provincial Judo Championships -Halifax

June 6th, 2009

Sport Nova Scotia held the annual IKON Awards at the World Trade and Convention Centre as well. Two Kanokai athletes received the top judo awards of the evening which were;

Top Male Athlete of the Year for Judo - Bryan Campbell

Fair Play Athlete of the Year Finalist - Heidi Feit 


 Cape Breton Judo Club Tournament - Sydney

Hi Everyone,

We have some great news at Judo Nova Scotia - we just learned that Heidi Feit was selected as Cleve's Athlete of the Month for November! Congratulations Heidi!!

Out of all the submissions received throughout the entire province, from every sport, we've had three athletes selected for this award this year - Bryan Campbell in May; Dylan Landry in October and now Heidi for November. These young athletes embody the judo spirit and give their all when competing. Well done!

To familiarize those of you who would like to know more about this award, below is an excerpt from the Sport Nova Scotia website:

"The Cleve's/ New Balance Athlete of the Month Awards were created to honour Nova Scotian athletes for outstanding achievement in sport. The Awards are presented to deserving male and female athletes and teams on a monthly basis. All winners receive a plaque compliments of Cleve's and each male and female winner will receive a $50.00 gift certificate for the purchase of New Balance footwear. Plaques will be distributed at the IKON Sport Awards in May where each winner will be invited as a tribute to their outstanding athletic accomplishments."

Kanokai Judo Club was well represented in Port Hawkesbury over the weekend with 18 members competing. The athletes took home the trophy for the TOP CLUB at the event.

Quebec Open International Judo Tournament

Heidi Feit of Priestville, and Bryan Campbell of New Glasgow, both placed 3rd in their respective categories at this international competition. They were part of the Nova Scotia Team that brought home 6 medals.
